Sailing from Narsarsuaq in the South, cruising on board the Greenland Coastal Steamer MV Sarfaq Ittuk some 1.200 km northbound along Greenland’s rugged West Coast as far as the magnificent Disko Bay region, calling at a number of towns and settlements along the way for a short guided tour, before arriving at Ilulissat – the Town of the Icebergs! - where a number of exciting Optional Excursions are available.

Day 1: TUE UK – COPENHAGEN

Day 2: WED COPENHAGEN - NARSARSUAQ
Flight by Air Greenland Copenhagen/Narsarsuaq Departing 10:15/Arriving 10:55 Hours. Lunch is served during flight.
Transfer to Hotel Narsarsuaq.
Afternoon Excursion: Eric the Red's Viking Ruins
We cross Eric's Fiord by boat and go ashore at the sheep breeding settlement Qassiarsuk, situated on the very spot where Eric the Red in year 985 settled and named his farm "Brattahlið". We visit the ruins of Eric's Farm and Thorhildur's church, the first christian church on the american continent.
Welcome dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: THU NARSARSUAQ – COASTAL VOYAGE
Breakfast at Hotel Narsarsuaq.
08.00 Transfer from Hotel to pier for embarkation MV Sarfaq Ittuk
09.00 Departure from Narsarsuaq – Information meeting on board.
11.30-12.00 Short stop in Narsaq.
14.00-17.00 Call to Qaqortoq – short Guided City Walk of Qaqortoq.

Day 4: FRI COASTAL VOYAGE

Sailing north along Greenland’s West Coast.
07.00-07.30 Short stop in Paamiut.
19.30-23.00 Call to Nuuk – Guided City Tour of Nuuk Including the
Cultural House Katuaq. Breakfast and dinner on board.
Day 5: SAT COASTAL VOYAGE
Continuing north along the West Coast crossing the Polar Circle.
08.00-09.00 Short stop in Maniitsoq.
18.30-21.00 Call to Sisimiut – short Guided City Walk of Sisimiut.
Breakfast and dinner on board.
Day 6: SUN COASTAL VOYAGE - ILULISSAT
Breakfast on board.
Cruising through the Disko Bay – around Aasiaat you might see the
humpback whales and just before Ilulissat we’ll pass the huge
icebergs outside the ice fjord.
07.30-08.30 Short stop in Aasiaat.
13.00 Arrival to Ilulissat – Transfer to Hotel Arctic.
After ‘Check-In’ Information meeting followed by a City Walk.
Welcome Dinner at the Hotel.
Day 7: MON ILULISSAT

I2: The Icebergs of Sermermiut
By bus as far as the road goes. A beautiful walk along the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fjord to Sermermiut where traces from the 4 old Eskimo cultures still can be seen. Sermermiut is a fertile valley next to the Ice Fjord; here you can enjoy the flowers as well as the fantastic icebergs. Including Refreshement.

I3: Hunter's Settlement
By boat to the small settlement Oqaitsut (Rodebay) with a local population of approx. 40 persons who are entirely dependent upon fishing and hunting - quite a different world compared to the nearby town of Ilulissat. Guided walk through the village before enjoying lunch at the old trading station.

I4: Midnight Cruise to the Ice Fiord
The midnight sun and the warm red colours reflecting in the gigantic icebergs is a fantastic sight. Cruise between the icebergs and enjoy a late Martini on "the real rocks"!
Season for midnight sun is approx. 22May-24July. Outside this season the excursion is operated as an evening cruise with the beautiful sunset reflecting over the icebergs.

I5: By Helicopter to the Ice Cap
During the stay in Ilulissat the guide will try to arrange an excursion by helicopter - including a ground stop where you can leave the helicopter!
During the flight we cruise at low altitude over the Ilulissat Ice Fjord which is now on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Operation is depending upon the weather and helicopter capacity. Only to be booked locally!

I7: Home Visit
Visit a Greenland home, enjoy the "Coffee-Mik" (a cup of coffee which by tradition is served to all visitors) and learn about Greenland and its population.

I8: Eqip - The Calving Glacier
Eqip glacier is the only glacier in the Ilulissat area where we often experience a glacier calving. We cruise in front of the 5 km wide glacier - enjoying our lunch - and hope for the unique sight of an iceberg “delivery” - so are also a lot of seabirds as they know by experience, that any calving from the glacier will result in a huge meal , when the new iceberg is turning around in the water bringing a lot of sea animals to the surface.
