DAY 1 UK – ICELAND
Fly UK/Iceland. Collect hired vehicle on arrival at Keflavik International Airport.
Overnight Reykjavik: FossHotel or similar.
DAY 2 SOUTH – WEST
Visit Keri∂ volcanic crater, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot springs. Drive along the scenic Whalefjord and explore the Saga Valley Borgarfjör∂ur with waterfalls, hot springs and historic sites. Another option would be to drive the Kaldidalur Mountain Road F550. (Note: 4WD Vehicle needed and the pass is normally closed to traffic until mid June). The next two nights will be spent in this region.
Overnight Reykholt: FossHótel or similar.
DAY 3 WEST
The 100 Km long Snaefellsnes Peninsula and the Breidafjordur Bay area with
its rich birdlife are among the ‘must see’ locations in Iceland. Highlights include the unusual rock formations at Arnarstapi. The majestic Snaefellsjokull Glacier, the fishing villages of Hellissandur, Grundarfjordur and Stykkisholmur.
Optional Activities: Whale Watching From Olafsvik Harbour.
Snowmobile Ride On Snaefellsjokull Glacier. Breidafjordur Bird & Island Cruise From Stykkisholmur.
DAY 4 WEST - NORTH
Drive north to Skagafjör∂ur, the Valley of the Horses. On the way we recommend river rafting, horseback riding or driving around Vatnsnes Peninsula and explore the seal colony at Hindisvík.
Overnight Saudarkrokur: Fosshótel or similar.
Optional Activities: River-Rafting, Horse-Riding, Golf, Fishing.
DAY 5 NORTH
We recommend a drive to Siglufjör∂ur, the capital of herring fishing. Stopping
at the historic sites of Hólar and a visit to the local Folk Museum and turf farm at Glaumbær. Visit Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland, and Go∂afoss, the Waterfall of the Gods before arriving at your accommodation where you will stay for the next two nights.
Overnight Laugar/Husavik: Fosshótel or similar.
DAY 6 NORTH
We recommend an optional whale watching cruise in Húsavík and a visit to the unique Whale Museum. Drive around Tjörnes Peninsula to Hljó∂aklettar for an enjoyable walk before you visit Ásbyrgi and Dettifoss (mid June – August) Europe’s most powerful waterfall.
Optional Activity: Whale Watching Boat Trip from Husavik Harbour.
DAY 7 NORTH - REYKJAVIK
Explore the natural wonders of Lake Myvatn, the hot springs at Námaskar∂ and the lava fields at Krafla before returning your hired Vehicle back to Akureyri Airport to connect with a flight by Air Iceland back to Reykjavík where you will have time to enjoy a walk through the centre of Reykjavík.
Overnight Reykjavik: Fosshótel or similar.
Optional Activity: Whale Watching Boat Safari from Reykjavik Harbour.
DAY 8 ICELAND - UK
Transfer back to Keflavik International Airport by the ‘Flybus’ Service. If returning on a late afternoon flight you will have the opportunity to take an Optional Excursion to the world famous Blue Lagoon on the Reykjanes Peninsula with time to relax and enjoy a bathe in the bright blue mineral-rich geothermally heated waters before being driven back to the Airport to connect with your flight.
Optional Excursion. RE/70: ‘Relaxing Blue Lagoon’ @ £15.00 Per Person.
