Reykjavik is Iceland’s Capital City, and home to 62% of the total population. Meaning ‘Smoky Bay’, Reykjavik was so named in 874 by its Viking founder because of the steam rising from the hot springs, though this northernmost City is anything but smoky, it is infact totally smoke-free due to the City’s reliance on geothermal heat.
Set on a broad bay with a backdrop of majestic mountains, Reykjavik offers you all the trappings of a modern European city. Stunning views of Reykjavik and its surroundings can be seen from the viewing deck on the dome of the Perlan Building meaning ‘The Pearl’), a giant pump for the city’s geothermally heated water supply, and its rooftop restaurant and cafeteria are an excellent place to dine. Equally good views can be obtained from the spire of the tall, graceful Hallgrimskirkja Church.
All trips can be tailor-made.
