On the bank of river Olfusa and in Icelands richest farming district is to be found the community of Selfoss. Selfoss has a population 4,400 and the number is increasing annually.

For ornithologists, Floi nature reserve 6km west of Selfoss has the second largest number of recorded species of birds in Iceland and has a two kilometre hiking trail.
