Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and the northernmost capital city in the world, it was founded in 1786. Greater Reykjavik is home to around 200,000 icelanders, 60% of the total population.
Reykjavik means "Smoky Bay", and was named in 874 AD by its Viking founder because of the steam rising from the hot springs. Reykjavik is however anything but smoky, it is infact totally smoke-free due to the city's reliance on geothermal heat.
Set on a broad bay with a back drop of majestic mountains, Reykjavik offers you all the trappings of a mordern European City - first class hotels, excellent cusine, art galleries, shopping malls and not forgetting a vibrant nightlife.
Due to the short flight time recent years have seen an increase in number of weekend visitors.
